KAT-TUN postpones their dome tour + cancels upcoming live event

KAT-TUN announced to fans that they will be postponing their upcoming nationwide dome tour, in addition to cancelling their open-air live event in July.

The five concert dome tour will be rescheduled to next year because the times KAT-TUN planned to use the domes coincided with several professional baseball games this fall, making the domes unavailable during those times.

According to sources close to KAT-TUN, their live event in July was cancelled due to the fact that the location is still specified as a refugee shelter for those who lost their homes during the aftermath of the Tohoku earthquake.

“We want to do lives constantly, but we’re still figuring out how we can do that through trial and error,” said Kamenashi Kazuya in his apology to fans.

IU becomes a ping pong master for new ‘S-OIL’ CF

Earlier this month, we revealed a CF from Korean petroleum and refinery company, ‘S-OIL‘, which featured an appearance from IU.

Two weeks down the road, S-OIL released another CF with IU, and it’s actually pretty hilarious.

The CF sees IU competing against five boys in a ping pong grudge match, being outnumbered 1:5. After getting smashed in the first few rounds, IU whips out her ukelele and proceeds to smack the living daylights out of the five boys, reducing them to a broken force.

How that has anything to do with S-OIL, we really don’t know, but enjoy the CF anyway!

B2ST’s Yoseob hopes to break the ‘three second idol singers’ stereotype

After making a comeback with their first official album, “Fiction and Fact“, B2ST’s main vocalist Yoseob sat down for an interview with Sports Chosun to speak for the group on idols being stereotyped as ‘three-second singers’.

The stereotype first came about after idol groups began adding members that sang no more than three seconds’ worth of lines; the weight of the song was placed more firmly onto the main vocalist instead.

Addressing the stereotype, Yoseob said, “We want to break that stereotype. It’s not right for groups to put the weight of the song on one member alone, and we’ve reached a point where we’re now regarded as ‘three-second singers’.”

He continued, “Through this album, we hope to show that each of our members have live vocal talents. We practiced very hard and garnered more skills along the way, Dongwoon especially. In order to show our improvements, we made sure to distribute the parts evenly so that fans can hear each of our voices.”

When asked whether it was difficult for them to pull off “Fiction” live since the tone is higher than what male groups usually go for, he replied, “The only hard part was the initial recording process. We were busy preparing for our comeback and recorded about two songs a day. When we had to redo recordings or complete intros, we’d do three songs in a day. Compared to ‘Shock‘ and ‘Soom‘, I think this song fits us the best. It’s a lot easier to sing.”

Reporters asked, “Don’t you think it’s easier because you’ve improved?”, to which Yoseob humbly replied, “No, it’s not like that at all. I still have a long way to go.”

Lee Sora introduces hip hop on “I Am a Singer” with special guests, Soul Dive

On May 29th, fans of hip hop rejoiced over Lee Sora’s collaboration with Soul Dive on MBC’s “I Am a Singer“, as it was the first time in the show’s prestigious history that hip hop music was performed.

Immediately after the broadcast, underground trio Soul Dive ranked first on numerous search portals for their impressive performance with Lee Sora. Working alongside DJ Juice, they covered a re-arrangement of Soul Dive’s recent hit with Im Jae Bum, “The Fist Cries“.

Viewers are hailing this stage as the biggest transformation any artist on the show has undertaken, and are praising Lee Sora for daring to step out of the box.

Soul Dive commented, “It was an honor for us to even be able to perform with one of our greatest seniors. We took part in her stage with passion, and we’re sure that this will be a memory we will never forget. We’d also like to express our gratitude towards senior Im Jae Bum.”

Viewers weren’t the only ones who praised Soul Dive, as respected hip hop artists like Eluphant’s Minos tweeted, “Jealous of their collaboration! Please watch today’s ‘I Am a Singer.’ Their stage will make your soul stop in your tracks and send applause and support.”

Jerry.k of Loquence tweeted, “Soul Dive performed on ‘I Am a Singer.’ Since the show is limited to singers, I think this performance exhibits two very realistic sides of the current state of the industry, in that although rappers were able to break through to their territory, it is still only as a ‘with’ featuring, which is a limitation to our abilities.”

Ock Ju Hyun talks about her anti-fans, places first on “I Am a Singer”

On May 29th, Ock Ju Hyun performed for the first time on MBC’s “I Am a Singer” alongside JK Kim Dong Wook.

Just before the broadcast, she revealed the unfortunate obstacles she was forced to overcome because of her controversial addition the show. As reported previously, anti-fans fussed over whether this veteran idol was good enough to perform on “a show of such stature.”

Ock began, “Every time my name headlined, my mom would call me and ask me to rethink my decision. I’ve been promoting as a musical actress all along, which I thought was a different world compared to broadcast TV. I was thinking about returning to sing, and at that moment, I received a casting offer.”

She continued, “I do feel pressured by the talents of my co-stars, but that doesn’t mean it’s because I’m an idol… I want to become a good example for other idols who are racing towards their dreams.”

Speaking on the topic of antis, “I hate it when my name is on the internet. Whenever my name is used in a direction that I don’t feel comfortable with, my heart just drops. Just seeing the word ‘Ock’ makes me turn off the internet. Even though I hate reading it, however, I do come away with something.”

When asked what she will do if she was eliminated, she replied, “I think I’ll cry, but I will console myself by saying, ‘You knew it would happen.’”

Contrary to her expectations, however, Ock Ju Hyun managed to come away by placing first for her performance of “For A Thousand Days.”

Yoon Eun Hye & Kang Ji Hwan attend SBS’s “Lie to Me” press conference

On May 27th, the cast of SBS’s “Lie to Me” got together to attend the drama’s press conference at Ilsan, Kyungki-do.

Lead actor Kang Ji Hwan shared a little info about some of the scenes in the drama, such as a ‘cola kiss’. He explained, “The script writer isn’t married, but I think she likes kiss scenes. Yoon Eun Hye and I promised each other that we’d try our best before beginning the kiss scene. The first time we did it, we were surprised to see how sexual it looked when we were monitoring it.”

He continued, “The second kiss scene is a new one that I don’t think has been tried before. It’s been nicknamed the ‘cola kiss’. The kiss scene for the sixth episode took place in the early morning, and I remember using a whole bottle of mouthwash without even eating breakfast.”

Speaking on his teamwork with Yoon Eun Hye, he revealed, “We work very well together. A lot of the aspects in a romantic comedy will really begin to liven up towards the middle of the drama, so please look forward to it.”

Yoon Eun Hye also talked about her marriage plans by stating, “I don’t think age matters in marriage. I’ve wanted to get married since I was 22 years old. Ever since I was little, my father always told me that 21 was gold, 22 was silver, and 23 was bronze. I debuted at a young age, so I always have a fantasy of going on all the dates I want after getting married.”

Focusing on her character, she explained, “Ah Jung is a woman who is wounded by having her first love stolen by ‘Soran’. The lies she makes grow bigger and bigger until it eventually leads to her marriage.”

Yang Hyun Suk plans to make 2011 2NE1’s year

“2NE1 debuted three years ago, but in my eyes, they still look like rookies. I think that’s synonymous to how they haven’t had that many activities or exposure through TV. Therefore, 2NE1 still has quite a bit to show. This year will be the year to settle it all.”

The above statement was made by YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk, expressing his views on 2NE1’s impending return to the music industry.

Coming back with ‘Lonely’ eight months after dropping their first studio album, 2NE1 has been sweeping Korean music charts, even scoring a perfect all-kill in major charts in May.

Expanding further on the topic of 2NE1’s potential, YG said, “They aren’t popular singers. They’re just starting now. This year is the year that they’ll reach their peak, both publically and musically. Around the time of their debut, many people criticized me with ‘Yang Hyun Suk went insane’, ‘He’s going to get it soon’, and ‘He’s arrogant’ because 2NE1, who were rookies, went out on music programs only once a week. It’s just my opinion that 2NE1’s a unique group and they should be promoted in their own way.”

Though most entertainment companies flaunt their power through how many times they can put their singers on TV, YG Entertainment does the opposite.

Yang Hyun Suk explains, “Rather than having either Big Bang or 2NE1 go on whatever program many times, we try to pick stages with better standards and enjoy it.”

He also put his foot down on the rumors that he was especially close to SBS.

“It’s true I receive misunderstandings. Counting from my Seo Taiji and Kids days, I’ve been in the broadcasting business for about 30 years. If I wanted to be close to anyone affiliated with the broadcasting business, I could, but I don’t. This is because I always keep one rule: which producers of which programs will let YG artists shine the most?”

Yang Hyun Suk then clarified that the reason why he works well with SBS’s “Inkigayo” was because of producer Park Suk Hoon, who’s reportedly the best in directing shows; he could also pick out the accurate points in dance choreographies.

Moving on, Yang Hyun Suk also revealed 2NE1’s ambitious aspirations. “I have a plan to make this year 2NE1’s year. From April 21st, we kept working without rest. Teddy has already made about six songs and they’re all really good. With my producer’s instinct, I have a feeling that they’ll all be hit songs. ‘Do you want to listen to 2NE1’s songs since they’re really good?’ is the kind of promotion I want to do.”

2NE1 is already leading a ‘first place parade’ with their new song, breaking past MBC’s ‘I Am A Singer’ chart domination. The girls are now preparing for the release of their follow-up song.
